Savagnin Blanc

This is a very old grape variety and it is one of the great great grandparents of all Pinots and Chardonnay. There is not a lot grown in Australia and what there is  (including our 1/2 acre ) was nearly all planted with the intention of planting the Spanish grape Albarino.  The source material was wrongly thought to be Albarino and the mistake was discovered only after 48 growers had planted it! I'm not sure that an Australian style for this variety has been established yet. We have marked time a little and produced a slightly sweet style with a refreshingly crisp finish. It was tank fermented and only 80 cases were produced.
