Mosquito Hill Wines Home Page

Mosquito Hill Wines is located in the Southern Fleurieu Geographical Indication, approximately fifty minutes drive south of the Adelaide city centre. The vineyards are at an elevation of approximately 250 metres above sea level delivering wines made in a cool climate style offering varietal integrity.

The Mosquito Hill Brand Philosophy:

· Make the highest quality wine at affordable prices
· Produce wines that are food friendly and made in an ‘old world’ style
· Maintain production levels at between 1,200 to 1,500 cases per year
· To have unirrigated vineyards delivering the greatest possible flavour intensity
· The maintaining of yields between one to three tonnes to the acre
· Hand harvesting of grapes at optimal ripeness
· Focusing on our core varieties of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay
· Having fun while we do what we do

The result is a beautifully balanced portfolio of wines with the following key characteristics:

Mosquito Hill Méthode Champenoise, Blanc de Blancs
An elegant wine with a creamy mouthfeel and flavours of melon and brioche.

Mosquito Hill Rosé (50% Pinot Noir, 50% Chardonnay)

A lighter styled wine offering aromas of cranberry fruit and a dry cleansing red fruit palette.

Mosquito Hill Chardonnay
The new style of Chardonnay with aromas of citris fruits and a palate offering a slate-like minerality and lemon sherbet sorbet.

Mosquito Hill Pinot Noir
An ‘old world’ styled wine with red cherry and clove aromas, delivering a palate of dried herbs, spice and red fruits underlined by a chalky tannin structure.

The 2009 wines are very different from those of 2008.  Where 2008 is fruit driven, full-bodied and high in alcohol, the 2009's benefitted from much cooler nights delivering wines that are more food friendly, medium bodied and old world (think Chablis for the white and Burgundy/Tuscany for the red) in style.

This what boutique wine making is all about....we are very much exposed to the vagaries of the vintage so I hope you will all appreciate the change of style that is delivered from the same vineyard under different vintage conditions (the French have to deal with it all the time).

James Halliday Gives Mosquito Hill 2009 Rosé 90 points.

James Halliday has awarded the 2009 Mosquito Hill Rosé 90 points in his 2011 Wine Companion.

This is a great score for a style of wine that rarely gathers these marks due to their lighter bodied style. Halliday also rates it as excellent value for money (at RRP of $18) and we sell it directly for only $13.
